Kadala Curry | kerala recipe | Side dish for appam

I have never tasted kadal curry  as such but had tasted many channa items ! couple of days back first time i tasted this in hotel sangetha with appam ! i loved it ! i wanted to try on my own ! i am done with my version ! infact this one tasted good with hot rice too !



ingredients:

Brown channa - 2 cup (soaked over night )
Big onion - 2 nos finely chopped
Salt - as required
Turmeric powder -1 tbsp
Sambhar powder  - 1tbsp + 1tsp (or else use coriander and red chilly powder )
oil - 4 tbsp

To grind

Tomato = 2 nos
Garlic = 4 nos without skin
Green chilly - 2 nos
Coconut - 1/2 cup shredded
fennel seeds - 1tbsp
ginger - 1 tsp or 1 small piece

pre paration:

Soak the brown channa over night and keep it in the pressure cooker for boiling leave 3 whistle!

Method:

Heat the kadai and pour some 2 tbsp of oil and saute the item given under " To grind" , saute till everything blend well and tomato is mushy off the flame allow it to cool and then grind it nicely !


Now again heat the kadai and pour the oil and once heat add the chopped onion saute till color changes , then add the boiled channa dal and saute for a minute , then add the turmeric powder and spicy powder and adjust water to the consitency !

 allow it to boil it hardly takes 5 to 7 minutes under low flame it takes 10 to 12 minutes once raw smell goes add the grinded item and mix well

! if needed u can add some 1 tbsp of coconut oil ! serve with hot appam and garnish with coriander !

Note:


  • If sambhar powder not available add the coriander and chilly powder ! 1tbsp of each 
  • Boil the channa dal well
